Your Cellphone is Causing You Skin Problems!

Jan 15th 2021 Posted by Nicole acne, bacteria, breakouts, cell, cellphones, dirt, face, germs,

It has easily become something that we can’t live without…our cellphone. Our daily companion travels with us in our purses, gym bags, back pocket, work briefcases; hey it’s constantly in our hands. Whether you want to admit it or not, we are pretty much addicted to our phones. How many times have you checked your email, surfed the internet, scrolled through Instagram or binge-watched shows on YouTube today? As such, our phones are the main collectors of our sweat, oils, make-up and bacteria.

Check this out, while research differs as to the exact number of germs our cellphones carry, a 2017 article by the US National Library of Medicine found more than 17,000 bacterial gene copies on the phones of high school students. YUCK! Another article published by the Seattle Times in 2017 noted that our phones are covered in about 25,127 bacteria per square inch, surpassing the toilet seat, checkout screens and doorknobs by 16,400+ bacteria per square inch. TOTALLY GROSS!!

That surely is something to think about the next time you answer the phone by putting it up to your face. The truth of the matter is that all breakouts start with clogged pores in your skin. The germs and bacteria that our phone collects daily from our hands and other surfaces contribute to pore build-up, irritation and the acne we experience. If pores are blocked, the natural oils in our skin cannot flow freely out of them. Breakouts generally appear on the cheek where your phone touches your face. In addition, the pressure of the phone on your skin creates blemishes. But it’s not just that…our hands are the germiest part of our body. So, if we are touching surfaces, then touching our phone and then touching our face…well you know how that goes…we are bound to see and experience irritation and breakouts.

As we are striving for glowing and healthy skin in 2021, here are 4 things you can do to keep you, your skin and your phone clean and safe!

  • Wash your hands! We’ve been hearing about the importance of good hand washing since before March 2020. Hand washing for at least 20 seconds is what’s needed to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus and other diseases. Sing the ABCs or the chorus to your favorite song…it helps the time go by and ensures that you are washing for the full 20 seconds. Are you looking for a great daily hand and skin cleanser? • Wipe it down! When was the last time that we cleaned our phone? A quick search on Amazon under cellphone cleansing wipes brought up multiple products that are easy to use on the go. Or you can also clean your phone with a gentle cloth slightly dampened with a mix of water and isopropyl alcohol. Pay attention not to get your phone wet. Doing this weekly will help to ensure that you are keeping the germs and bacteria on your phone on the low.
  • Use headphones or a Bluetooth. By using a handsfree device, the germs and bacteria sitting on the screen and other areas of your phone will not come into direct contact with your skin.
  • Upgrade Your Facial Routine. Giving yourself a deep facial cleanse to detoxify your pores and help to prevent breakouts associated with consistent phone use. Our Black Pearl Facial Line consists of our luxurious Pore-Cleansing Sugar Scrub and Soap which is made with Activated Charcoal and Kaolin Clay. They work together to actively cleanse the skin, unclog pores, remove deeper impurities, and dead skin cells. The result is smooth, supple, and even-toned skin.
