Why Your Skin Feels Dry (and What It’s Really Asking For)

Feb 28th 2026 Posted by Nicole

Recently, I’ve been thinking a lot about hydration — like real hydration — the kind that actually reaches your skin and stays there. While vending last weekend, someone shared that their skin felt extra dry (because the cold air and indoor heat we experience during the winter will humble anybody). But before I could even respond, they said, “I know, I know… I probably need a body butter.”

While yes, body butters are beautiful. Here’s the truth we don’t talk about enough: If you’re not exfoliating, your moisturizer is fighting through layers of buildup just to do its job. Hydration starts with a clean, fresh surface. That’s where your sugar scrub comes in — gently lifting away what your skin no longer needs so your body butter can actually sink in, soothe, and nourish.

Think of it as a partnership: Scrub to reset. Butter to replenish. Glow to follow.

What’s Really Happening to Your Skin Right Now

Cold air outside + dry heat inside = moisture being pulled from your skin faster than you can replace it.

That shows up as:

- Flakiness or rough patches → Your skin is saying, “I need exfoliation, not just moisture.”

- Tightness after showering → “My skin barrier is stressed.”

- Butter sitting on top instead of absorbing → “There’s buildup blocking me.”

- Itchiness or irritation → “I’m dehydrated, not just dry.”

Your skin isn’t being dramatic — it’s communicating.

As we step into March, I hope you make space for both — softness and renewal, exfoliation and moisture, care and consistency. Your skin will thank you for it. And as always, listen to what your body is telling you. These small moments of attention add up, and your skin feels every bit of that care.
